Top 3 US Women Indie Musicians to Watch This Year

I will never get tired of repeating that we in the US are blessed with incredible female talent when it comes to indie music. There are so many astounding established as well as young artists that I cannot even fit all of them within my playlist.

Yet, I believe it is important to talk about every one of these ingenious ladies. They deserve, after all, to get all the publicity they can and advance their music to new and exciting horizons. It is also by celebrating existing talent that we foster the spurt of new talent.

It is important for both the indie music audiences and the new generations of musicians to see that already existing artists have the full support of media outlets. That motivates them and gives them hope that will support them to grow and develop. The latter is essential in the world of indie music, where artists do not have the prowess of big labels behind their backs.

I feel like I am doing too much talking, so let me focus on today’s topic. Please read below to learn about some of the most amazing US women indie musicians. A single article by far cannot cover the topic in-depth, so I will continue publishing more information about it. For now, let us dive into the first blog post of the series.

Lizzy McAlpine

If you are into female indie music, I bet you have heard any of the following tracks: “Give Me a Minute,” “Apple Pie,” and “Pancakes for Dinner.” Not only do these songs present a unique musical feast for the soul but they also nurture the warm and fuzzy feeling about finding a home in people rather than places.

These indie pop masterpieces were created by Lizzy McAlpine, one of the most promising young US female music talents. Lizzy was born and raised in suburban Philadelphia. She unleashed her creative side at a young age to become a well-rounded musician in her early twenties. So much so that she managed to impress Joshua Bassett, one of Disney’s most beloved stars. Every teenage girl’s crush declared Lizzy McAlpine would change the music industry by 2025.

Another intriguing aspect of Lizzy’s work is the fact that she is pretty focused on celebrating being a young woman in today’s modern world. Her album “five seconds flat” is soaked in wonder and existentialism and deals with a variety of relevant aspects of being a cheery, bubbly, yet deep and complex modern female.

However, Lizzy’s newest album also has a few darker songs, such as “doomsday”, “an ego thing,” and “erase me.” The latter was recorded in a collaboration with Jacob Collier.

The best part about this young indie performer’s music is that it is versatile. In contrast to the three tracks from the paragraph above, she also has songs like “all my ghosts,” which is a lively, sparkly tune.

A few more of Lizzy’s songs you need to hear include:

  • • “called you again”
  • • “what a shame”
  • • “orange show speedway”
  • • “hate to be lame”

Maggie Rogers

Maggie Rogers is another astounding indie music US female performer. Maggie was born in Easton, Maryland, and has been an active performer since 2012. Her voice is incredible and comes from a deep, authentic place just like her moves, to be honest.

Maggie’s vocal capacity becomes pretty obvious in pieces like Light On and Fallingwater. However, recorded music simply does not do justice to this amazing indie music diva. Her real power lies in live performances, where she has an immense capacity to connect with the audience. Maggie has a very strong stage presence and she uses her entire being to communicate her art with the crowd.

Fletcher

Fletcher is by far one of my favorite female US indie music performers. This spectacular lady carries with her a notion of mild authority, confidence, and daring. She first appeared in 2015 only to skyrocket herself to the Best Female Indie Artists 2015 and imprint herself on the hearts of fans not only in the US but across the entire world.

Coming from the sandy shores of Asbury Park, NJ, Fletcher has shown perseverance and ambition when it comes to staying ahead of other female indie performers. She has consistently produced poignant, dashing music pieces like Undrunk, I Believe You, Shh…Don’t Say It, and more.

If you want to see and hear one of Fletcher’s stunning performances, please find the video below:
