Interview Background and Credits

Interview with Violet Lewis

As you might have guessed, talented Ms. Lewis is a busybody these days. That is why, I have been unable to get hold of her despite my numerous attempts. Hence, today I will be recounting one of her most brilliant interviews, courtesy of Sheesh! Magazine. This online media is one of my top outlets for music news and interviews with beloved indie artists. Let’s get it rock and rollin’!

Violet Lewis Early Years

Violet Lewis was born twenty-three years ago in LA. She comes from a family that values music highly. In her interview, she told Sheesh! Magazine that she grew up in a house full of CDs. Some of the artists who deeply impressed her were Sir Elton John and Neil Young.

However, little Violet was most impressed with Joan Jett. The young girl was fascinated by the way Jarr played the guitar. She felt that Jarr was completely possessed by her music.

It was not before long that Violet went on to live her Joan Jett dream. At the age of seven, little Ms. Lewis managed to convince her parents to buy her a guitar. That might have taken some time, but it did eventually lead to a star being born.

As soon as she got her first guitar, Violet unleashed her talent for songwriting. It was a natural process, the musician recalled while highlighting that she was a child easily impressed by the world. In her interview, she recollected how she sometimes found her circumstances somewhat overwhelming and baffling. Thus, she found solace in songwriting.

Soon it was obvious that she had found the perfect cure to the unbearable lightness of being. Violet defined herself as a child who always had something to say. That is why songwriting helped her get her confusing thoughts out of her head. She dressed them up as art to help herself find meaning in what was happening around her. Songwriting was my way to say what I had to say, Violet told the magazine.

Violet Lewis as an Indie Music Artist: Bittersweet Sensation

You wouldn’t have guessed by her smiley face and vibrant looks, but Violet stated that her music mostly comes from her times of negativity and darkness. Still, what she does is find the beauty and light in gloomy sensations and tries to take them out with her artistic talents. Hence, she describes her music as “bittersweet.”

Violet likes to romanticize, so you will often see her surrounded by glowing candles, sipping from a glass of fine wine, and indulging in the act of songwriting. In her words, her songwriting process resembles a date with herself.

Nonetheless, as Violet is rising to fame, she often has to comply with the inconveniences of life on the go. Therefore, she tries to create time for songwriting whenever and wherever she can. She often unleashes her creativity while traveling on planes, buses, and trains.

Whatever the case might be, Violet regards songwriting as a way to detox her mind. She just takes out her thoughts on paper and pours them out while giving them beautiful and enticing shapes. In terms of her creative process, she said she has mostly created music by first laying out the foundation and then going back to polish the details. Here is a video of one of Violet’s most popular songs, Goodnight and Goodbye:

Other popular songs from the young musician include:

  • Augustine
  • Fake Nails
  • Miss You Now
  • Kicking and Screaming
  • Don’t Say Goodbye

A Young Woman Against The Industry

As we already said, it is incredibly hard for a young woman to succeed in the American music environment without the powerful support of big labels. Yet, Violet is doing it and has turned into an inspiration for many aspiring indie music artists.

Violet admitted in front of Sheesh! Magazine that it might sometimes be easy to get caught up in the game and become a little harsh on yourself. In her words, the lane of emerging female music artists in the US is overflowing with talented and attractive performers, who are determined to make it big. That is why often negativity, comparison, and self-criticism can get the best of a performer.

Yet, she has tried to stay grounded and learn as much as possible. In terms of advice to emerging musicians, Violet highlighted her conviction that one should write what they want to write instead of minding what audiences want to hear. Stay truthful was her punchline, and it is obvious that she lives up to that principle in the way she creates music.
